Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will become the youngest person to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Manchester for his campaign against child poverty. Rashford, 22, campaigned for the government to allow about 1.3 million children to claim free school meal vouchers in England’s summer holidays. October’s Chicago Marathon has been cancelled because of coronavirus concerns, organisers said on Monday. The announcement comes after the United States’ other major marathons, in Boston and New York, were also called off because of the pandemic. “My hope was to see everyone on the start line on 11 October,” said race director Carey Pinkowski. “Our highest priority has always been the safety of our participants and our volunteers.” Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei won the women’s race in 2019 in a world-record time and compatriot Lawrence Cherono won the men’s race. Manchester City have successfully overturned their two-year ban from European club competitions. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) announced the club were cleared of “disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions” on Monday. Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) issued the ban in February after ruling City had committed “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations between 2012 and 2016. City’s fine has been cut to 10million euros. They were originally fined 30million euros (£26.9m). Christopher Aurier, the brother of Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, was shot dead in Toulouse in the early hours of Monday morning. According to AFP reports citing a French police source, the 26-year-old was shot twice in the stomach at a nightclub in an industrial area in the outskirts of Toulouse city centre. Christopher Aurier was rushed to Toulouse University hospital in critical condition shortly after 5am but was then pronounced dead. French police are still hunting for the gunman who fled the scene.
