Retired President Daniel Arap Moi was on Saturday rushed back to Nairobi Hospital, two days after being discharged. Moi had been at the facility for close to two weeks with breathing complications. Sources said that the former head of state was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS) on Saturday banned the sale and manufacture of five maize flour brands. In a statement, KeBS asked Dola, 210, Jembe, Starehe and Kifaru maize flour manufacturers to withdraw the product from the market over high aflatoxin levels. “The respective permits have been suspended and the manufacturers instructed to discontinue manufacturing or offering for sale the affected maize meal products. “Additionally, the manufacturers are required to recall all the substandard maize meal products from the market and institute corrective actions,” the statement read in part. National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) could soon run out of regional business, as the recently launched Uganda Airlines threatens to eat up the remaining ‘small’ market that is keeping it (KQ) afloat. A Kenyan woman whose identity is yet to be revealed was busted with cocaine at the Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, Thailand. Thai officials said that the woman swallowed more than one kilogram of cocaine to avoid detection. She was however subjected to a x-ray. ”An x-ray showed she had swallowed 1.2kg of cocaine in a bid to avoid detection,” Niyom Termsrisuk, a Thai official said. The just concluded Kibra by-election was marred with voter bribery claims, low voter turnout and violence in some parts of the densely populated constituency. Debt-saddled Uchumi on Thursday received a major reprieve after the High Court gave the retailer additional 30 days to conclude talks with secured creditors on agreeing to the Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA). In a statement, Uchumi CEO Mohammed Mohammed said that the struggling retail chain has so far managed to get KCB, Co-operative Bank and ICDC to endorse the CVA under various terms. The management, Mr Mohammed mentioned is still in talks with the government which has a 14.6 per cent stake and UBA Bank which has been seeking to dispose of Uchumi’s land to settle a Sh172 million debt.…
