Eight police officers were Tuesday interdicted over the escape of 12 suspects including a serial murder suspect Collins Jumaisi.  This is after preliminary investigations showed the escape was an inside job. Acting Inspector General of police Gilbert Masengeli among those interdicted include the Gigiri Sub County Police Commander, OCS Gigiri Police Station, Duty Officer, Duty NCO, Station Guards and Report Office Personnel. He said they are investigating the incident. He said the 12 Eritrean nationals were arrested for being illegally in Kenya and were waiting to be repatriated. Top police officers trooped to Gigiri police station in Nairobi after the escape of a high value suspect from custody.  Collins Jumaisi escaped alongside 12 other suspects who were being held at the station in circumstances that are under scrutiny. The other 12 are Eritreans. They were being held there pending repatriation to their country. The Senate Tuesday approved the nomination of Douglas Kanja as Inspector General of National Police Service.  The development follows recommendation by a joint committee of parliament that vetted Kanja last week. Police launched a fresh hunt on a serial killer who escaped from custody in unclear circumstances in Nairobi. Collins Jumaisi, a suspected serial killer linked to 42 murder incidents is among the escapees from Gigiri police cells. The incident happened on Tuesday morning. The others are Eritreans who had been detained there pending repatriation to their country. Police came to know of it as they woke up the suspects in custody for morning tea. At least 12 people were killed Tuesday morning in a bus accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway involving a bus. Seven bodies had earlier been retrieved from the scene before police and other rescuers found five more trapped in the bus wreckage. The victims were trapped for hours as rescuers struggled to rescue them. This is after the bus hit the barrier there and landed in a ditch. A man suspected to be behind the killing of four women in Rongai and Nakuru West Sub-Counties has been arrested. He confessed to the murders, citing rejection, Rongai Sub-County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani said. In a significant breakthrough, police officers from Baraka Police Station in Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru County apprehended Ezekiel Kwame Mwangi, 19 who has been on the police radar for his alleged involvement in a series of brutal murders in the area. At least seven people were killed Tuesday morning in a bus accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway involving a bus. Police and rescuers said about 40 other passengers were injured in the 5 am incident. The bus, which was headed for Nakuru direction from Kericho is said to have lost its brakes as the driver negotiated the steep stretch. The bus rammed onto the barriers on the stretch and other vehicles ahead of it before it landed in a ditch. Some passengers who survived the accident said the bus was headed for Mombasa. One man has died and six other people are missing after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily in the early hours of Monday morning.  The 56m (183ft) vessel was carrying 22 people – 10 crew and 12 passengers – including British, American and Canadian nationals. Emergency services rescued 15 people, including a one-year-old British girl. Local media reported that the yacht, sailing under the name Bayesian, sank after encountering a heavy storm overnight that caused waterspouts, or rotating columns of air, to appear over the sea. National Carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) bounced back to profitability after ten years financial troubles.   KQ posted Sh513 million in net profit helped by reduced exposures from foreign currency fluctuations and the restructuring of its loans by the state. This is a rebound of up 102 per cent from the Sh21.7 billion losses that the airline posted in a similar period last year. Businessman Jimi Wanjigi was Monday arrested and detained at Kamukunji police station over claims of illegal possession of firearms.  Police said he will be prosecuted Tuesday August 20. He was to spend the night at Kamukunji Police cells. The supreme Court will Tuesday August 20 deliver a ruling on whether it will suspend a decision that declared the Finance Act 2023 unconstitutional pending an appeal filed by Cabinet Secretary for Treasury. The Apex court in a notice indicated that the ruling will be delivered through email at 10am. Last month the appellate court declared the Act as unconstitutional saying the process leading to its enactment was flawed.
