South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s former defence minister was arrested on Sunday over his alleged role in Yoon’s declaration of martial law last week, prosecutors said. Yoon survived an impeachment vote in the opposition-led parliament late on Saturday, prompted by Tuesday’s short-lived attempt to impose martial law, but the leader of his own party said the president would effectively be excluded from his duties before eventually stepping down. The leader of Yoon’s People Power Party, Han Dong-hoon, in a joint press conference with the prime minister, said on Sunday that Yoon will not be involved in foreign and other…
The Syrian government appeared to have fallen early Sunday in a stunning end to the 50-year rule of the Assad family after a sudden rebel offensive sprinted across government-held territory and entered the capital in 10 days. The head of a Syrian opposition war monitor said President Bashar Assad had left the country for an undisclosed location, fleeing ahead of insurgents who said they had entered Damascus following the remarkably swift advance across the country. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Jalali said the government was ready to “extend its hand” to the opposition and turn its functions over to a…
Ruben Amorim believes he has to keep expectations in check at Manchester United after the optimism surrounding his positive start was punctured by a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal. The Portuguese has had a rollercoaster introduction in his first two weeks in charge of the English giants. A disappointing 1-1 draw at lowly Ipswich was followed by an eventful 3-2 Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt. Everton’s 4-0 thrashing at Old Trafford last weekend was the first time United had won a Premier League game by four or more goals since August 2021. However, the gulf between the Red Devils and those…
The International Criminal Police Organization — or Interpol — announced Thursday that an operation involving law enforcement from nine South American countries has resulted in the arrest of 45 people and the seizure of more than 3,000 homemade bombs and tons of explosive material linked to regional criminal groups. The collaborative effort, known as Operation Claymore, was carried out August 11 to October 11 and focused on the illegal flow of chemicals and other components used to make explosives in South America, according to a statement. Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen sensationally claimed that the ongoing mass criticism against President William Ruto across all sectors was because of his tribe. Speaking on Thursday December 5 after gracing the first joint graduation ceremony of Kericho County Vocational Training Centres, Murkomen slammed the church, media, and government critics accusing them of being tribal in their evaluation of the President’s performance so far. Terming the current Kenya Kwanza fault-finding by Kenyans as unfair, the CS denounced the attacks directed at the President saying they were not issue-base. Murkomen took issue with why Ruto is constantly only being compared to…
A judge presiding over the trial of Daniel Penny, a former Marine accused of choking a homeless man to death on a New York City subway, has dismissed a charge of second-degree manslaughter against him, after jurors failed to reach an agreement. New York jurors still have one less severe charge of criminally negligent homicide to consider. On the fourth day of deliberations, the 12 jurors sent two notes saying they were “unable to come to a unanimous vote” on the first count, which would be required for a conviction. The judge sent them back to try again, but they…
At least 29 police officers were killed on duty in 2024. This is a decrease as compared to those who died in 2023, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who is also the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary said. He said the country lost 29 officers this year, down from 37 last year. Most of those killed this year died as a result of terrorist attacks and livestock theft raids, while two officers were killed following an attack by members of the public. A list of the fallen officers’ names was officially unveiled at a memorial site in Embakasi, as a tribute to…

The intelligence files were from the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunication Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.…

Fernandes Anderson was under investigation by federal authorities and FBI agents were seen outside her home in Dorchester this morning as she was taken into custody, according to WCVB. She is facing five counts of wire fraud and one count of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, a court filing by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts says. Federal prosecutors allege that in late 2022, Fernandes Anderson hired a staff member that was related to her and then defrauded the…
The speed with which the status quo in Syria – however unresolved and unsatisfactory – has been turned on its head in recent days has been extraordinary. Syrian government officials and supporters were still asserting the army would hold the line at Hama, even as insurgent fighters were entering the city. Shortly afterwards, the Syrian military acknowledged that it had pulled out of Hama, ceding control of the city for the first time to rebel factions. After capturing two major cities within a week, the next target for the insurgents led by the Islamist group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), is…
Lizzo has won a key ruling in her ongoing legal battle with a stylist who claims she was subjected to racial and sexual harassment and a hostile work environment by members of the singer’s management team while on tour in 2023, as well as unpaid overtime. A Los Angeles federal judge ruled on Monday that wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels could not sue the Grammy winner as an individual, after identifying the singer’s touring and payroll companies as her employers. But Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc remains a defendant in the ongoing case. US district judge Fernando L Aenlle-Rocha dismissed all…
