Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been charged by the country’s chief prosecutor with attempting a coup after he was defeated in the 2022 presidential election. The 69-year-old was handed five charges over the alleged bid to prevent his successor, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, from taking office after a bitter election race. Attacks by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Force have killed hundreds of civilians, including infants, in White Nile state, Sudanese officials and rights groups said Tuesday. Sudan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the paramilitary group targeted civilians in the past few days in villages in the al-Gitaina area after they were “overwhelmed by its devastating defeat” by the Sudanese army. Three suspects, including two police officers were arrested for their alleged involvement in an attempted robbery with violence along the Githurai-Soweto railway line, Nairobi. The suspects were caught in the act on the night of February 17, 2025, police said. The officers are attached to the General Service Unit headquarters. They denied the claims. While on routine patrol, police officers stumbled upon the trio assaulting a man and attempting to rob him of his valuables. A jury in Los Angeles acquitted the musician, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, on two felony assault charges that carried up to 24 years in prison. Rick Buckler, former drummer in The Jam, has died at the age of 69, his ex-bandmates have confirmed on social media.
