Tana River Governor Dhado Godana and Galole Member of Parliament Said Hiribae were arrested Friday night for grilling over ongoing inter-clan clashes in the area. This is after they ignored police summonses for grilling over the deadly clashes. They were arrested in Mombasa and driven to Nairobi for the grilling sessions. At least 18 people have so far been killed and dozens others displaced in the clashes. Police said they moved to arrest the two after they had ignored summons to appear for grilling over the issue. Canada’s parliament has passed a bill that that will cover the full cost of contraception and diabetes drugs for Canadians. The Liberal government said it is the initial phase of a plan that would expand to become a publicly funded national pharmacare programme. The government estimates one in five Canadians struggle to pay for prescription drugs. The federal government still has to negotiate individual funding commitments with Canada’s provinces and territories. A report from parliament’s budget watchdog estimates this bill will increase federal spending by C$1.9bn ($1.3bn; £1bn) over the next five years. Boeing will axe its workforce by a tenth – cutting 17,000 jobs – and delay production as the aeroplane maker deals with issues across its business. Chief executive Kelly Ortberg said in an email to staff that “executives, managers, and employees'” jobs are all at risk. The business also warned of losses in its weapons and military equipment manufacturing arm, and pushed back the delivery date of its 777X plane. Actress Lupita Nyong’o has condemned the Kenyan authorities’ crackdown on huge anti-tax protests that began in June. Demonstrators were met with police brutality, according to rights groups, with dozens of people killed and numerous others abducted. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has officially launched a service centre at the Malaba One-Stop Border Post (OSBP).  The service centre is designed to expedite the clearance of goods, services, and people at the border. Currently, the OSBP handles an average of 2,000 trucks daily, 1,400 for outbound cargo and 600 for inbound cargo. This number is expected to increase significantly with the implementation of a new customer service model that brings multiple partner government agencies services under one roof. Three Members of Parliament (MPs) from Tana River County were Friday grilled by police in connection with ongoing inter-clan clashes that have so far claimed at least 18 lives.  Also grilled is a local Member of County Assembly, police said. President William Ruto has announced that an additional 600 Kenyan police officers are currently undergoing pre-deployment training and will soon be ready to serve in Haiti. On Friday, the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court’s ruling that sentenced Sirisia Member of Parliament, John Waluke, to 67 years in prison on corruption charges. In 2022, the High Court had sentenced Waluke to either serve 67 years in prison or pay a Ksh1 billion fine, after rejecting his appeal against the verdict. Waluke and his co-director, accused of defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) of Ksh313 million, were convicted on charges of graft. A German national drowned in a swimming pool he was playing in the Diani area, Kwale County. The lifeless body of Peter Willy, 80 was found in the swimming pool of Jacaranda Indian Ocean Hotel on October 8 in the evening. He was a tourist visiting the country. A resident at the facility spotted it and raided the alarm before he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. At least six people died by suicide in separate incidents reported to police in the country. The incidents happened between Wednesday and Thursday, police said adding the trend is breaking families. These are the latest such incidents to be reported in a worrying trend amid calls to address the menace. Gunmen invaded another town north of Haiti’s capital on Thursday, shooting at people and setting homes on fire, just a week after a massacre killed at least 115 people in the country’s central region. The number of casualties was not immediately known. Residents in the coastal town of Arcahaie called radio stations pleading for help and asking that police come and save them.
