Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki Thursday vowed to crack down and clean up the Nyayo House, the headquarters of immigration department. He blamed corrupt officials for the interminable delays in passport issuance and processing. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki Thursday announced that all police roadblocks will be removed across the country from November 1, 2023. The roadblocks will be replaced by patrol security officers along the highways and major corridors. Kindiki said the elimination of roadblocks is a presidential directive. “Roadblocks are an old form of security in various nations. A suspected thug was Wednesday shot and killed in a botched robbery incident in Huruma, Nairobi. Police said the suspect and an accomplice had attacked and were robbing a pedestrian when an alarm was raised. This attracted the attention of police who were on patrol. The team responded and shot and killed one while his accomplice managed to escape in the morning drama. Other victims said the two had earlier attacked and robbed them of their valuables and cash. The fight against crime in the country, received a major boost after a donation of four vehicles from the United States, through the US Africa Command. The vehicles were handed over by Joseph Kellams, a top official from the US embassy who was representing the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Country Attaché, in a ceremony held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters. Police are investigating an incident in which a man died after jumping from the third floor of a building in a suspected suicide in Kahawa West, Nairobi. Thomas Ngige died on the spot after landing on his head. Police said they were called and informed of the Tuesday afternoon incident long after it had happened. A 38-year-old man was killed in a fight with a man over his wife in Kasarani area. Police said Mathew Nyandoro sustained serious stabs in the head and chest and died on the spot after a confrontation with a stranger. The power distributor Kenya Power and Lighting says increased cases of vandalism are to blame for frequent blackouts so far. According to a report from KPLC, the power distributor had recorded over 220 incidents of vandalism in the country from January to June this year, with Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, and Nakuru Counties accounting for over half of the reported incidents. Details have emerged on what police will earn in new reviewed salaries. A newly recruited constable police officer will now earn a monthly salary of Sh21,645 in the review released by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
