Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth has been arrested over an alleged break-in in the county’s Finance office. Police said the Speaker was arrested after attempting to cart away some files from the office at around 3am Wednesday. Also arrested were seven youths in the company of the speaker during the break-in. Exiled Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has sued Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Rachael Omamo over his failed trip home. In a case filed at the High Court in Nairobi, the Canada-based barrister wants the minister committed to civil jail for frustrating his return into the country. Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau has accused her boss Kivutha Kibwana of intimidation after being stripped of the Health Minister role in recent county changes. A Bungoma court has acquitted Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa of charges of causing fracas during the Kabuchai by-elections. In a ruling delivered on Monday, the court said the prosecution did not establish a prima facie case against the accused person. He was acquitted of all counts of electoral malpractices. “The prosecution has failed to prove its case against the accused person in all counts,” the court ruled. At least 10 people have been killed and a number injured after a bus they were traveling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Mandera County on Monday. Kahawa Tungu understands the incident occured on the Arabia-Mandera Highway on Monday morning. The matatu was ferrying an unknown number of passengers to Mandera town. Kenyan stand-up comedian Akuku Danger (pictured) has been readmitted to hospital just days after being discharged. The funnyman, born Mannerson Oduor Ochieng, was discharged from the Nairobi Hospital last week, after spending a month at the facility. At the time, Akuku’s friends said one of his lungs had collapsed, and was fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Kenya Power and Lightening Company (KPLC) has finally reconnected the customer whose power supply was unfairly disconnected recently over his brother’s huge pending bill. The move follows pressure from members of the public after Richard Ngure shared the complaint on social media. Ngure is a poultry farmer in Nyeri County. In the post that went viral, the businessman said the power disruption led to the death of more than 200 chicks in his brooder. Private hospitals have announced plans to deny services to all patients depending on the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover from February 1. The operators say their agreement with the state corporation has expired and no renewal talks have been initiated. The Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KAPH) has in recent months mounted pressure on the government to halt changes proposed in contracts for the 2022-2024 period to allow further deliberations. The healthcare providers are opposed to a review of NHIF guidelines affecting their operations. At least three European countries have warned their citizens of an imminent terror attack in Kenya. In alerts seen by this writer, France, Netherlands and Germany said the terrorists are targeting places frequented by western nationals in the capital Nairobi. France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged its nationals to exercise extreme vigilance and avoid frequenting public places. President Uhuru Kenyatta has signed the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, 2021, into law. This is following approval of the party laws by the Senate on Wednesday, with just months to the August General Election. Police are currently pursuing a gang of five members linked to a robbery incident at Prime Bank offices in Nakuru County. The thugs raided the bank located at the Westside Mall on Wednesday afternoon, getting away with Ksh2.3 million. The bank manager, in a police report, said the five stormed into the banking hall wielding a homemade gun, hammer, knives and a panga. They took hostage nine members of staff who were on duty and locked them inside the bank’s toilets before ransacking the offices. The stolen money was in the tellers’ cash drawers.
