The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) chair Kiprono Kittony has cleared the air over the alleged illegal ballot paper tender.

Kittony on Thursday, confirmed that indeed the chief executive of Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company paid a courtesy call to President Uhuru but not over the KSh 2.5 billion ballot papers tender.

Majid Saif Al Ghurair, was in the country on October 5, 2016, but for a business-to-business meeting between Kenya and Dubai chambers and not to visit the president over the tender.

“After our B2B meeting, as has been the practice with other business delegations from around the world, we paid a courtesy call to His Excellency the President. The meeting was attended by 10 people from both countries,” Kittony explained in his statement.

The meeting was centred around Fly Dubai’s access to Mombasa, banking license moratorium imposed by the Central Bank of Kenya, work permits and investment opportunities.

The opposition has accused the IEBC of awarding the tender to the Dubai firm because of its link to Uhuru. The opposition has claimed that the firm was used by the President to rig the August 8 elections.

It has also been said that the opposition leader, Raila Odinga wanted the tender awarded to a South African firm that had promised to pump Sh. 1 Billion into his presidential campaign if he got them the tender.
