Police in Seme Sub-County, Kisumu County, exhumed the body of a 35-year-old man following a court order linked to a family burial dispute.

According to police, the exhumation of Joab Otieno was carried out on April 27, 2026, at Kokello Village in the presence of the deceased’s mother who is also the next of kin.

Police indicated that the exhumation followed an order issued by the Ndhiwa Principal Magistrate’s Court in case number MCCC/E016/2026.

The dispute arises between the deceased’s mother—who has since remarried—and the paternal family of the deceased, whose father is also deceased, over the rightful burial site.

After the exhumation, the body was transported to Ndhiwa Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it will be preserved pending the hearing and determination of the case.

Authorities confirmed that the exercise proceeded without incident.

And a 17-year-old boy died following a violent attack by a group of youths in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County.

According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of April 26, 2026, at around 7:00 p.m. near Omanyi Village as a group of young men walked from Nyakunguru Trading Centre.

The deceased was in the company of several others when they were ambushed by an estimated 20 assailants armed with pangas.

Police reports indicate that one of the attackers, identified as Nathaniel Abuka, allegedly cut Fidel on the left hand as he attempted to flee.

The suspect then pursued another victim, inflicting minor head injuries before the attackers fled the scene.

The victim later regrouped with the deceased, who was bleeding heavily. With the help of family members, he was rushed to Awasi Catholic Mission Hospital, where he received treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

The body is currently preserved at the funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination, as investigations into the murder continue.

No arrests have been reported so far, police said adding they were pursuing good leads.
