    Body of missing girl found in pit latrine in Kakamega

    The body of a Grade five girl who had been reported missing was found in a pit latrine in an incident that shocked a village in Virembe, Shinyalu, Kakamega County.

    Police believe the girl was assaulted, murdered and later her body dumped in the pit latrine that was in use.

    The incident happened on Sunday June 28.

    The girl had been missing since Saturday in the area. This prompted a search that ended when the body was discovered in the latrine, police said.

    She was a learner at Lukaya Primary School. He body with visible injuries was removed and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.

    Detectives visited the scene as part of investigations into the murder and assault.

    No arrest had been made by Monday even as the investigators continued with their work. The motive of the incident was not immediately known.

    And police in Vihiga County have launched a murder investigation after a 42-year-old man who had reported being assaulted by a group of people was found dead in his house.

    The body of Godfrey Ingasi was discovered on Sunday morning inside his home in Impaka Village, Serem Sub-location, Shamakhokho Location, Hamisi Sub-County.

    According to police, the incident was reported at about 1 p.m., prompting officers from Cheptulu Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Hamisi to visit the scene.

    Investigators found Ingasi’s body inside the house with a swollen left leg and bruises on his back and left shoulder.

    Preliminary investigations established that the deceased had allegedly been assaulted by seven people on June 25, 2026. He reported the incident at Cheptulu Police Station the same day and named several individuals as among those involved.

    Police said Ingasi had been advised to seek medical treatment following the assault but later succumbed to his injuries.

    The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Jumuia Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

    Detectives have commenced investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death and trace those linked to the alleged assault.
