    Early Life

Casey Austin Keenum was born on February 17, 1988, in Brownwood, Texas. Football ran in his family—his father, Steve Keenum, played offensive line at McMurry University and later became the school’s head football coach and athletic director.

Keenum grew up in Alpine and Abilene, Texas, and attended Wylie High School. There, he established himself as a standout athlete, passing for 6,783 yards and 48 touchdowns, while also rushing for 2,000 yards and 41 touchdowns. He finished his high school career with a 31–11 record and also competed in basketball and track.

    College Career at Houston

Keenum was recruited by the University of Houston, where he redshirted during the 2006 season. He made his collegiate debut in 2007 and quickly emerged as one of the most productive quarterbacks in the country.

In 2008, Keenum threw for more than 5,000 yards, leading the nation in total offense and helping Houston reach its first bowl game in nearly 30 years. He continued his dominance in 2009, recording 48 total touchdowns and over 5,800 yards of total offense, as the Cougars finished 10–4.

Keenum’s 2010 season was cut short by a torn ACL, but he returned in 2011 after receiving a sixth year of eligibility. That season, he shattered NCAA records for career passing touchdowns, passing yards, and completions, cementing his place as one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football history. He graduated with a degree in business administration.

    Houston Texans

Despite his historic college résumé, Keenum went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft. He signed with the Houston Texans, spending his rookie season on the practice squad. In 2013, he made his NFL debut and threw his first professional touchdown, though he finished the season with an 0–8 record as a starter.

In 2014, Keenum was waived by Houston, briefly joined the St. Louis Rams, and later re-signed with the Texans, where he earned his first two NFL wins late in the season.

St. Louis / Los Angeles Rams

Keenum returned to the Rams in 2015 and started multiple games. Despite suffering a concussion late in the season, he led the team to three consecutive victories. After the franchise relocated to Los Angeles in 2016, Keenum set a team record with 19 consecutive completions.

    Minnesota Vikings Breakout Season

In 2017, Keenum signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, marking the high point of his NFL career. He led the Vikings to the NFC North title, finishing the season with 3,547 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.

Keenum was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month in November and famously led the Vikings to the “Minneapolis Miracle” victory over the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round. Minnesota’s season ended in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

    Denver Broncos Contract

Following his breakout year, Keenum signed a two-year, $36 million contract with the Denver Broncos in 2018. He set career highs with 3,890 passing yards while starting all 16 games. That contract significantly boosted Case Keenum’s net worth.

    Washington, Cleveland, and Buffalo

Keenum was traded to the Washington Redskins in 2019, where he started the season and posted a career-high 380 passing yards in Week 1. He later signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2020, serving primarily as a backup for two seasons.

In 2022, Keenum joined the Buffalo Bills, reuniting with former Vikings teammate Stefon Diggs, with whom he had connected during the Minneapolis Miracle.
