The body of a nine-year-old boy who had been abducted and a ransom demanded for his release was found on a rooftop of a house after his murder in Githunguri, Kiambu County.
Two suspects including a 75-year-old man were arrested over the brutal murder of the boy, police said.
The boy had been strangled and the body hidden on the rooftop of a residential house of one of the suspects in custody.
The boy went missing on April 11 when his mother traveled from their Kajai village to Kipipiri for a family meeting.
She left the boy under the care of his grandmother who later reported she had received a call from one of the suspects that he had abducted the victim.
He demanded a ransom of Sh150,000 for his release.
Unsure of the seriousness of the saga, the family rushed to the local police station and reported the matter.
This prompted a probe and subsequent arrest of one James Ngigi Ngendo, 35 and James Mburu Chuchu who were produced in court and police granted 10 days to enable them complete the probe.
Police revisited a house where Ngendo stayed on April 14 and reported being greeted by a foul smell. This prompted a search that led to the discovery of the decomposed body, police said.
Police said victim’s body was stashed in a manila bag covered with clothing materials in the rooftop of the residential house where Ngendo was residing prior to the incident.
It was established that the suspect murdered the victim and hid his body on the roof top of their house before leaving the home.
The body had only strangulation marks in the neck, an indication that the victim was strangled, a team of detectives that visited the scene said.
Police moved the body to the mortuary pending further investigations. The incident left the village in shock amid calls for justice in the same.
