Dennis Oliech scored the final goal as Gor Mahia put Zamalek of Egypt to the sword at the Kasarani Stadium thumping them 4-2 in a Caf Confederation Cup on Sunday.
The Menace, as the Kenya’s all time top scorer with 34 goals is fondly referred to, came on as a 67th minute substitute for injured Nicholas Kipkirui, who had given K’Ogalo the third goal and sealed the White Knights’ fate.
Receiving a deep pass from Rwandan striker Jacques Tuyisenge with added minutes on the clock, Oliech rounded up the entire Zamalek defense including the goalkeeper Mahmoud ABD Elrehem before burying the ball inside the net with panache.
His celebration thereafter was emotional and nostalgic in almost equal measure, evoking memories of his late brother Steve Okumu, who scored the winner for Gor Mahia the last time they met Zamalek at the Kasarani Stadium in 1998 prior to the Sunday’s duel.
Speaking after the game, Oliech said he knew he would score and dedicate the goal to the memory of the late Steve.
“I dedicate this goal to the late Stephen Okumu.
“I knew I would score by employing the same style and celebrating in the same manner like he did, I am happy for myself, the fans and Gor Mahia,” said Oliech.
Tuyisenge scored a brace in the match same as Ibrahim Hassan for Zamalek.
