The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is on the rescue after a Twitter user highlighted a case of domestic violence on the micro-blogging site.
On Wednesday, a woman identified as Lydia Kemunto told her story through Sema Ukweli, attracting the attention of thousands of Kenyans and the authorities.
Kemunto is said to have been physically abused by her boyfriend of six months, Neville Jakababa who apparently is the Secretary General of Technical University student body.
Jakababa, she said, has assaulted her thrice with the most recent altercation taking place over the weekend.
She reported the matter at the Industrial Area Police station under OB Number 51/25/3/2019.
Responding to Kemunto, the DPP noted that “We have been able to get in touch with the victim. All necessary legal steps shall be taken to ensure justice is done.”
At @ODPP_KE we have made efforts to get in touch with the victim, so far we have not been successful. The person who answered her cellphone promised to call back but she is yet to do so.

Cases of domestic violence have been on the rise with some ending in death.
In a 2018 report by Federation of Women Lawyers (Fida), cases of domestic violence hit a five-year high in the first half of 2018.
âThere needs to be a concerted effort from all sectors of the society to work towards the reduction of gender-based violence,â Fida Kenya Chairperson Josephine Mongâare told a local daily.
The UN says one in three women and girls experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
âOne in two women murdered worldwide were killed by their partners or family in 2012 while only one out of 20 men were killed in similar circumstances,â the UN says.
