The government has announced free entry to the Kasarani Stadium for the Afcon 2019 Group F qualifier return match against Ethiopia Sunday.

The move is meant to rally maximum fans support behind the team ahead of the crucial tie.

“Our national team Harambee Stars has continued to perform well in the AFCON matches where Kenya has beaten Ghana and drawn with Ethiopia.

In this respect, the government has stepped up support for the team to ensure that Kenya qualifies for the AFCON 2019 championship to be held in Cameroon.

Subsequently, I wish to announce that entry to the Kasarani Stadium will be free of charge to allow Kenyans cheer their team to victory,” Cabinet Secretary in charge of sports Rashid Echesa said in a statement to media Thursday.

A win for Harambee Stars against the Walia Ibex will see them through to the Afcon, if the FIFA ban on Sierra Leone is not lifted soon.

Kenya has not been represented at the biggest African football stage in 14 years since the 2004 edition in Tunisia.

Star’s last match at the Kasarani Stadium was a historic 1-0 win against fancied Ghana’s Black Stars which revived their Afcon 2019 campaign.

Kenya had previously lost 2-1 away to Sierra Leone in their group opener in 2017.

Sierra Leone were last Friday banned by FIFA due to government interference in the management of their FA, handing Kenya a huge advantage in the group.

It meant that all the past results involving the West African nation, including the 2-1 win stand cancelled.

With the draw against Ethiopia on Wednesday, three more points on Sunday will therefore be enough to see Kenya through.
