Gary had a younger brother named Stewart, who tragically passed away in the autumn of 2011 at the age of 35 due to a heart attack.

Stuart had faced challenges with heroin addiction, and his untimely death profoundly impacted Gary, occurring just before the birth of one of his children and motivating him to achieve greater success in darts.

This loss was compounded by the death of their father, Gordon, the following year in 2012.

    Career

Anderson’s darts career began in the British Darts Organisation (BDO), where he quickly rose to prominence by winning titles such as the International Darts League and World Darts Trophy in 2007, along with the Zuiderduin Masters in both 2007 and 2008.

In 2009, he made the switch to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), a move that elevated his profile on the global stage. His first major PDC victory came in 2011 with the Premier League Darts, solidifying his status as Scotland’s leading player since Jocky Wilson.

Anderson’s pinnacle achievements include securing back-to-back PDC World Championships in 2015 and 2016, defeating legends like Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis in the finals.

The year 2018 was particularly dominant for him, as he claimed the World Matchplay, UK Open, and Champions League of Darts titles.

He also partnered with Peter Wright to win the World Cup of Darts for Scotland in 2019.

Despite dealing with injuries and varying form in later years, Anderson has remained a consistent top-tier competitor in PDC events.

    Accolades

Anderson’s list of accolades reflects his status as one of darts’ all-time greats, beginning with his BDO successes like the British Classic in 2006, British Open in 2007, Gold Cup in 2006, and International Grand Prix in 2008.

In the PDC, he has captured two World Championships in 2015 and 2016, two Premier League titles in 2011 and 2015, the Players Championship Finals in 2014, and reached the European Championship final in 2015.

His remarkable 2018 season added the UK Open, World Matchplay, and Champions League of Darts to his resume, while the 2019 World Cup of Darts victory with Peter Wright further highlighted his team prowess.

Earlier highlights include the Denmark Open in 2004 and multiple Zuiderduin Masters wins.
