    Francisco Guillermo Ochoa Magaña, popularly known as Memo Ochoa, is a renowned Mexican professional footballer born on July 13, 1985, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

    He plays as a goalkeeper and has earned a reputation as one of the most consistent and accomplished shot-stoppers in Mexican football history.

    Ochoa is celebrated for his reflexes, command of the penalty area, and ability to perform under pressure in major tournaments.

    He is the son of Guillermo Ochoa Sánchez and Natalia Magaña Orozco.

    Guillermo has one younger sister, Ana Laura Ochoa Magaña.

    The family grew up in the Santa Mónica neighborhood of Guadalajara, where Ochoa developed his passion for football alongside his sister.

    Career

    Ochoa began his professional journey with Club América’s youth system in the mid-1990s.

    He made his senior debut in 2004 under coach Leo Beenhakker and quickly established himself as a key player, sharing goalkeeping duties before becoming the first-choice keeper.

    With América, he won the Clausura 2005 league title, the 2005 Campeón de Campeones, and the 2006 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup, making over 200 appearances for the club in his first stint.

    In 2011, he moved to Europe, signing with French club Ajaccio in Ligue 1, where he became a fan favorite and earned Player of the Season honors despite the team’s challenges.

    Subsequent spells included time at Málaga and a loan at Granada in Spain, Standard Liège in Belgium (where he won the Belgian Cup), and a return to América in 2019.

    Later in his career, he played for Salernitana in Italy’s Serie A, Portuguese side AVS, and as of 2025, AEL Limassol in Cyprus.

    Internationally, Ochoa debuted for Mexico in 2005 and has represented the country in a record six FIFA World Cups (2006 through 2026), delivering memorable performances, such as his standout displays in 2014 against Brazil.

    He has been a cornerstone of the national team for over two decades, known for his longevity and leadership.

    Accolades

    Ochoa has won six CONCACAF Gold Cup titles with Mexico (2009, 2011, 2015, 2019, 2023, and 2025), making him the most successful player in the competition’s history.

    He also secured a bronze medal with Mexico at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

    At the club level, his trophies include Liga MX titles, a CONCACAF Champions Cup, and the Belgian Cup.

    Individually, he has received multiple Golden Glove awards, Player of the Season recognitions across clubs, and was once shortlisted for the FIFA Ballon d’Or.

    Ochoa holds records such as the most clean sheets for Club América and remains one of the most capped Mexican players and goalkeepers of all time.
