The National Treasury has halted the installation and commissioning of mobile medical clinics connected to the Sh5 billion health scandal.

The Treasury is reported to have cut Sh450 million set aside to cater for the installation and commissioning of 100 containers that are reported to be stuck at the National Youth Service yard in Mombasa.

“100 portable clinics were procured and are due for installation and commissioning in the sites that are to be prepared by the Ministry,” Health principal secretary Julius Korir said.

“The removal of the allocation of Sh450 million will result in the programme not being implemented at all.”

According to the Health PS the ministry intends to start the project to help with the upgrading of slums with the mobile clinics set to be allocated in 20 different counties.

“This is in response to the government policy of providing affordable health services closer to the public,” he said in a brief to the special committee.

This comes after Ministry of Health officials failed to account for Sh5 billion last year.

According to reports Estama Investment Ltd supplied 100 portable clinics at the cost of Sh1.1 billion, however, ever since the clinics arrived in Mombasa two years ago they have not been distributed.
