Seven Homa Bay County Assembly officials will be arrested and charged with several economic crimes, DPP Noordin Haji has said.
The officials will be charged with the loss of over the loss of Sh26 million public funds for the financial years 2014/15 and 2016/17.
Those involved are the county assembly clerk, Members of the County Assembly, and persons from finance and procurement department.
The seven are: Micheal Owino Ooro, Issac Nyandege, Judith Omongi, Otieno Bob Kephas, Caroline Sang, Morris Amok and Edwin Okollo.
“I have received the file and I am satisfied the persons named herein actively participated in the perpetration of the alleged criminal activities and should, therefore, be charged and prosecuted,” he said.

Earlier on in the year, a section of Homa Bay MCAs called on the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to probe their colleagues who they suspected were using county funds for personal interests.
“The assembly has been hijacked by corruption cartels. Most assembly business cannot be transacted due to lack of money. Let the EACC come and find out where the money goes to,” Okuku Miregi (Rusinga) said.
In 2017 the EACC raided the assembly and some officials arrested over the misuse of Sh400 million.
