Giant American content creator IShowSpeed arrived in Kenya as he continues his 28-day in-real-life (IRL) tour across Africa, named ‘Speed Does Africa’.
Key government officials took advantage of the tour to market Kenya.
President William Ruto on Sunday welcomed the Streamer to Kenya saying this is a unique country.
“Kenya is not just another country; Kenya is a pulse, a feeling. Kenya is home. This is Magical Kenya,” Ruto told Speed in a video message.
Speed, born Darren Jason Watkins Jr, aired his 13th stream on Sunday morning when he visited Upper Hill School and even played a rugby game.
He had gone to Kenyatta Market where he was received by a mammoth crowd of fans all wanting to rub shoulders with the globally revered streamer.
He also a ride on public service vehicle Mood in a trip on Mombasa Road.
The 20-year-old internet sensation also went to the Nairobi national park, where he fed a hyena, lions, a leopard and a cheetah, where he received a show stopping welcoming and was even escorted by many fans aboard motorcycles down Langata Road.
He also visited the city center and had a ride on a Safari Rally car from Taifa Road to Kenyatta International Convention Center.
A huge crowd waited for him. Some tried to breach protocol as he made his way to the roof top of KICC.
“We love you IShowSpeed,” the fans kept shouting as he headed to Carnivore restaurant, where he was treated to an abundance of different types of meat.
He even acknowledged that his Kenyan stream has recorded the highest subscriber count in the African tour.
“We have hit 48 million subscribers. I don’t think you understand how crazy that is. No other country so far in this tour has been able to gain this amount of subs in one stream. Kenya is so far number one,” he said on his stream.
He embarked on his tour in South Africa, where he raced a cheetah, interacted with the rich customs of Mozambique, Botswana and Angola.
His first visit to Kenya will see him visiting significant relevant places in the country and meeting a plethora of luminaries.
His posts and livestreams showcasing his experiences in Africa, particularly his positive treatment by locals, have sparked online conversation, reportedly challenging long-held American stereotypes about Africa being generally unsafe for visitors.
Speed has received a huge welcome in Kenya, as fans have thronged the streets to see him.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano also welcomed the internet sensation, challenging him to enjoy Kenyan delicacies and visit attractions such as the Maasai Mara and other parks.
He later flew in a chopper from KICC through the city center then snaked over Talanta Stadium and landed at KWS. This is where he announced he had hit 48 million subscribers and did his signature backward somersault before closing the day.
