    Early Life

    Jared Allen was born on April 3, 1982, in Dallas, Texas, and grew up on a horse ranch in Morgan Hill, California. He attended Live Oak High School before transferring to Los Gatos High School for his senior year. As a standout defensive player, Allen earned First-Team All-League and First-Team All-Central Coast Section honors, finishing his senior season with 96 tackles and 12 sacks.

    College Career

    Although initially committed to the University of Washington, Allen lost his athletic scholarship and instead enrolled at Idaho State University. He quickly emerged as a dominant force for the Bengals football team.

    During his collegiate career, Allen earned three consecutive First-Team All-Big Sky selections and was named a First-Team Division I-AA All-American. In his senior season, he recorded 28 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles, earning the Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in Division I football.

    Kansas City Chiefs

    Jared Allen was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2004 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact, recording nine sacks as a rookie. By 2007, Allen had his breakout season, leading the NFL with 15.5 sacks and earning both Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors.

    Minnesota Vikings and Peak Performance

    In 2008, Allen was traded to the Minnesota Vikings, where he signed a six-year, $72.36 million contract. He continued to dominate, earning multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections.

    Allen’s best season came in 2011, when he set a Vikings franchise record with 22 sacks, narrowly missing the NFL single-season sack record. His years in Minnesota solidified his reputation as one of the elite defensive ends of his era.

    Chicago Bears

    Allen signed a four-year, $32 million contract with the Chicago Bears in 2014. Despite health setbacks early in the season, he contributed both as a defensive end and later as an outside linebacker.

    Carolina Panthers

    In September 2015, Allen was traded to the Carolina Panthers. He helped the team reach Super Bowl 50, where the Panthers faced the Denver Broncos. Shortly after the game, Allen announced his retirement from the NFL, famously posting a video of himself riding a horse into the sunset.

    Life After Football

    After retiring from football, Jared Allen pursued competitive curling. In 2018, he formed a curling team with fellow retired NFL players, competing in national tournaments and U.S. championship qualifying events.

    Jared Allen is married to Amy Allen, and the couple has a daughter named Brinley. He is also known for his charitable work, founding Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors, a nonprofit that builds accessible homes for injured military veterans.
