    College Career

    Plunkett went on to play college football at Stanford University, where he became one of the most decorated quarterbacks in college football history. In 1970, he won the Heisman Trophy, along with the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Sporting News Player of the Year, and UPI Player of the Year honors. He was also named a consensus All-American, cementing his status as the top player in the nation.

    NFL Draft

    Following his dominant college career, Plunkett was selected first overall in the 1971 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He played for the Patriots from 1971 to 1975, earning AFC Rookie of the Year honors in his debut season and becoming one of the league’s most recognizable young quarterbacks.

    San Francisco 49ers

    Plunkett later played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1976 to 1977 before joining the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders in 1978. It was with the Raiders that he achieved his greatest NFL success.

    Jim Plunkett won two Super Bowl championships with the Raiders and was named Super Bowl MVP for his performance in Super Bowl XV. In 1980, he completed one of the most remarkable turnarounds in NFL history by earning NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors.
