Kalonzo in Nigeria for Future Africa Leaders Awards ceremony

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka arrived in Nigeria to attend the Future Africa Leaders Awards ceremony, an event that recognises young Africans making exceptional contributions to the continent’s development.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Office of the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) party leader said Kalonzo departed on Wednesday morning, December 31, after honouring an invitation from the awards’ organisers led by African Leaders Awards founder Chikki Onigbanjo.

The ceremony, held at the Loveworld Nation Arena in Asese Base, Lagos, brings together political leaders, young innovators and changemakers from across Africa.

Musyoka was invited as an honoured guest in recognition of his long-standing leadership record and recent international accolades, including being named the London Political Summit and Awards 10th Anniversary Africa Political Leader and Personality of the Year.

“The WPF Party Leader’s participation underscores his continued commitment to pan-African unity, youth empowerment, and the advancement of leadership excellence across the continent. The Party Leader is expected to return shortly after the event.”

Meanwhile, Musyoka said the united opposition will name their presidential candidate in the first quarter of 2026 ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Musyoka, who gave assurance that the opposition will remain united in their quest to form the next government, says he is confident of being the flagbearer.

In his end-of-year message to the nation, Musyoka said the united opposition remains steadfast in its quest to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

He said Kenyans will soon know the opposition pick.

“I make this commitment to you: by the first quarter of 2026, the name of our presidential candidate will be made known to Kenyans. The united opposition is not just a coalition; it’s your government-in-waiting. We are united not by personal ambition, but by shared values,” said Musyoka.

The Wiper leader also delved into proposals to make changes to the Constitution during the 2027 elections.

Musyoka, who questioned sentiments by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, claims the move is suspicious and wants the regime to focus on obeying and respecting the rule of law.

“This is so they can manipulate the process and attempt to extend their grip on power through backdoor constitutional changes. There is no constitutional crisis in our country. Nothing can stop this election based on boundaries reviews,” he said.

While hitting at Ruto’s 2025 scorecard, Kalonzo says the regime has failed to address the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity, education, and healthcare access. He insists the Singapore dream remains a mirage.

“Ruto speaks of turning Kenya into Singapore, but what we see is #Singapoor — a nation drowning in debt, overtaxed citizens, collapsed industries, and fleeing investors. Let us be clear: Singapore was built on discipline, merit, and strategic investment,” he said.

He said if the opposition takes over the reins of power in 2027, they will cut unnecessary taxes like the Affordable Housing Levy, deliver a 24-hour economy to lower the cost of living, bring back investors and create jobs, end police brutality and abductions, deliver affordable and quality healthcare for all, and recover stolen public funds at home and abroad.

He also called for justice for those who were killed during the anti-government protests. The Wiper leader says that as the opposition, they will continue to oppose the planned privatisation of government assets in the new year.
