kcseA student was on Monday morning stopped from sitting for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), for showing up with her child to the examination centre.

Janet Muthoni, a private candidate from Starehe says she was turned away by a female invigilator who insisted that she could not write the exam with her 2 month old child.

Speaking to Kahawa Tungu, Ms Muthoni says that she pleaded with the invigilators but was forced to leave after engaging the officials in an argument. She was forced to make her way home from the Jamhuri High School, Ngara.

When asked by the invigilator what would happen should her child cry in the middle of the tests, Janet said that she would breastfeed him.

The young mother says that she will not write the rest of the exams, because the opportunity has once again passed her by.

Asked if anybody offered to look after the infant, the candidate says that nobody came to her rescue even as her future hang in the balance.
