The National Police Service recruits who are currently undergoing training under the new curriculum, recently received 100 computers and 3 printers from the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA). The ICT is not only for upgrading the Police Service but also enabling them to handle challenges in modern day policing.

The National Police Service trainees to benefit from the ICT support from KBA will be from Kenya Police Training College at Kiganjo, GSU Training School and the Administration Police Training College-APTC Embakasi.

The Police Reforms Implementation Committee Chairman Mr. Titus Naikuni said that the computers will equip them with knowledge, skills and attitude to enable them appreciate and apply ICT in crime research, investigations and police documentation.

He added that the computers, already installed with Microsoft Office suite amongst other programmes, will further endow the recruits with instruction aimed at enhancing their technical and mental capacity.

The C.E.O of Kenya Bankers Association Mr. Habil Olaka reiterated that the banking industry heavily relies on the police hence will continue to support the National Police Service in the course to modernize operations for efficiency of services.

According to the Ransley Report it was noted that the various NPS facilities were poorly resourced and required revamping. Also the institutions had very few classrooms, some did not have any computer laboratories while others lacked up-to-date libraries.

The KBA will receive a half yearly brief report on the usage of the computers by the Police colleges for a period of 15 and 21 months when the police recruits will graduate for a basic and cadet training from the colleges. They will also have an opportunity upon request to visit the college and monitor the usage and maintenance of the computers. This will be coordinated through PRIC and the national Police service.
