Nairobi motorists should expect road closures and traffic diversions this Sunday, August 17, 2025, when the city hosts another African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) match at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir announced that several main roads will be partially or fully closed during the day to manage the movement of fans and secure the venue.

The affected roads will include Aerodrome Road, which will be closed between Madaraka Roundabout and Bunyala Roundabout. One lane of Lang’ata Road will also be closed between Madaraka and Lusaka roundabouts, and one lane of Mombasa Road will be closed between Lusaka and Bunyala Roundabout.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during this period. Those travelling from Mombasa Road to the CBD should consider Likoni Road via Enterprise Road or the Southern Bypass through Ole Sereni. Drivers using Lang’ata Road to the city centre are encouraged to divert via Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout.

Traffic along Thika Road will also be disrupted, and vehicles heading from the CBD to Thika should use Kiambu Road through Exit 4. Motorists coming from Thika, Juja or Ruiru into the city centre are urged to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, while those travelling from Githurai to the CBD should use the Githurai 44–Kiambu Road route.

Fans without access passes going to Kasarani Stadium must use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8 on Thika Road.

Chirchir said police officers will be deployed along all affected roads to guide motorists and ease traffic flow. He urged motorists to cooperate and warned that action will be taken against those who break traffic laws.

The CHAN tournament has attracted thousands of football fans to the city. Harambee Stars currently top Group A with seven points, heightening excitement ahead of Sunday’s match.
