Spanish football star Lamine Yamal briefly shocked fans after posting a message suggesting he was retiring from football — only to later confirm it was an April Fools’ Day prank.

The 18-year-old forward shared a message on social media that appeared to announce his retirement, thanking fans for their support and saying: “It has been a great career. But now I have to announce my retirement from football! Thanks to all fans for support.”

The post quickly went viral, leaving supporters confused and surprised. However, Yamal later clarified the situation, confirming that the message was not serious and was part of April 1 jokes commonly known as April Fools’ Day.

Yamal, one of football’s brightest young talents, currently plays for Spanish giants FC Barcelona and the Spain national team. He is widely praised for his skill, creativity, and ability to score long-range goals.

A product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, Yamal broke into the first team during the 2023–24 season and quickly established himself as a key player.

He has already made history at both club and international level, becoming one of the youngest nominees for the Ballon d’Or and winning back-to-back Kopa Trophy awards for best young player in the world.

On the international stage, Yamal debuted for Spain at just 16 years old, becoming the youngest player and youngest scorer for the national team. He also played a key role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 triumph, earning the tournament’s Young Player Award.
