A 38-year-old man was arrested after his son, aged 10, succumbed to the injuries he sustained following a beating for failure to go to school in Maragua, Murang’a County.

The man is said to have caned his son on January 6 for failing to go to school. They rested for the night. Come January 7, the boy failed to wake up, and when the father went to look for him, he found his body lying on a mattress, motionless.

He told police he tried to wake him up in vain. Police visited the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Capital punishment is banned both at home and schools.

The man was arrested pending grilling and possible arraignment for murder, police said.

The murder happened in Gatuya-ini village on January 7 night. The man identified as Jackson Ngunyi Gishigo was found murdered and his body dumped in a banana plantation. His house had been ransacked by the suspected killers, police said.

Police said the body had injuries in the head and neck. The motive of the murder was not immediately established.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending investigations and autopsy.

Elsewhere in Bahati, Nairobi, one Oscar Muriuki, 36 was found dead on the road. The man had been sick and was found with blood oozing from his mouth and nose. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.

And police are investigating an incident where a fire burnt down property at the Hagadera refugee camp in Dadaab, Garissa County.

Police said a cinema hall, a shop, two residential houses and two vehicles were burnt in the January 7 incident.

No one was injured in the drama, police said. The cause of the fire was not established, police said adding experts were handling the matter.
