The man arrested for disrupting a Inua Mama rally in Wajir county on Friday was allegedly paid by Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi.

Sources privy to the details told Kahawa Tungu that the suspect, Ali Yassin Mohammed jetted in Wajir aboard a Jetway plane from Mombasa.

Mr Mohammed police have since discovered hails from Kibra, Nairobi County.

He is accused of lobbing a teargas canister during the rally. The canister landed near the dias causing a fracas.

Several people sustained minor injuries as they tried to scamper for safety.

It has also been said that the suspect was in the company of three others including a bodyguard attached to the woman rep.

They were traveling in a car belonging to Gedi’s uncle, a well known personality in the area.

The car (Reg No KCU 248K) crashed into a ditch and arrest was made.

Mohammed, sources intimated,  is also being investigated by the Anti Terror Police Unit (ATPU).

Gedi belongs to the Embrace Movement that supports the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

The Inua Mama is largely associated with the deputy president William Ruto.

During the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report unveiling on Wednesday at the Bomas of Kenya, Embrace leader Sabina Chege assured the president that the two factions would be disbanded.

“We confirm that we are going to support the process; you know that as women have been divided under Team Embrace and Inua Mama factions. We promise you today that we shall dissolve the factions to move together as one team,” she said.

But the Inua Mama chair, Kandara MP Alice Wahome turned down the request maintaining that the outfit was meant to empower women and not political agenda advancement.

“Point of correction and clarification: Inua Mama is all about empowering women socially and economically. Not a tool for political advancements and therefore can’t be merged with other groups with different agenda other than that. However, ideas on how we can reach out to more women in mashinani are most welcome,” she said.
