A 62-year-old man collapsed and died behind Equity Bank within Gikomba Market, Nairobi, on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Julius Kariuki Monju, a regular customer at Quarry Road Market.

According to the police and witnesses, he had been at a shop in the area before collapsing and dying.

His daughter positively identified the body.

Police said no physical injuries were observed on the deceased.

The scene was visited by officers from Kamukunji Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), while crime scene personnel processed the scene.

The body was moved to the City Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.

Elsewhere, police in Nyamira County have amended a death report initially recorded as a drowning incident to a murder investigation following an autopsy that revealed the deceased had suffered a severe head injury.

The deceased, identified as 23-year-old Simion Mogoba Mongare, was initially reported to have drowned in a river in Kebariga Village, Nyagwekoa Sub-location, Bomwagamo Location.

An autopsy was conducted on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Our Lady of Mercy Ibara Mission Hospital mortuary, where the body had been preserved.

The pathologist established that the cause of death was a severe head injury that led to cardiopulmonary arrest, consistent with blunt force trauma.

Following the findings, police amended the initial drowning report to a murder report. Investigations are expected to establish how the deceased sustained the injuries and the circumstances surrounding his death.

And police in Kuria West, Migori County, have launched investigations into the death of a man whose body was found with a serious wound on his neck.

The man had a serious wound on his neck, which was reportedly oozing blood. The body was found in a fenced area with no buildings inside.

The scene was processed and documented by crime scene personnel before the body was moved to the Migori Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

The deceased is awaiting identification and an autopsy to establish the cause of death as investigations into the suspected murder continue.
