Detectives are investigating an incident where the body of a man was found in a lodging after suspected suicide in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Police said Ali Ahmed Shire, 33, a Somali national, had checked into the room for a week on November 2 but failed to come out of his house the following day.

This raised the curiosity of the management who went to check on him. The management said there was no response from the room forcing them to break in where they found the body sliding on a bed with a bedsheet tied around his neck and hanging from a roof of the room along Second Avenue.

Police were called to the scene and moved the body to a local mortuary pending autopsy and burial.

The motive of the incident was not immediately established. Suicide cases are on the rise.

Police statistics show suicide cases are on the rise in a worrying trend.

Most of the victims are men, statistics show.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

The government says efforts are being made to address the menace

Meanwhile, police in Karungu, Nyatike, Migori County are investigating and incident where one Oduor Opiyo, 26 died after being assaulted by his brothers in a domestic argument.

The brothers accused the deceased of insulting their mother before assaulting him. He was left with serious injuries and rushed to the hospital where he died on arrival, police said. Efforts to arrest the said assailants are ongoing, police said.

Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.
