Residents of Migori were urged to exercise extreme caution when using the main Migori Bridge after it exhibited serious signs of structural distress.

In a statement, Governor Ochilo Ayacko warned that the bridge, a key transport link within Migori Town, had shown worrying structural weaknesses, particularly at the joints on the Suna West side.

The governor cautioned motorists, pedestrians and all other road users to either avoid the bridge where possible or cross it with utmost care as technical teams continue to assess its condition.

“The bridge has exhibited serious signs of structural distress, particularly on the Suna West side joints. In the interest of public safety, I strongly advise motorists, pedestrians and all road users to either avoid the bridge where possible or proceed with utmost caution as assessments continue,” he said.

Governor Ayacko revealed that the County Department of Environment and Disaster Management, working closely with the Office of the County Commissioner, is already on the ground conducting a comprehensive structural assessment and implementing immediate mitigation measures.

He added that the county government is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure a permanent solution is found and the safety of residents is fully guaranteed.

The Migori Bridge serves as a critical transport artery connecting various parts of the town and its environs, and any disruption is likely to affect business activities and traffic flow.

The governor assured residents that their safety remains the county’s top priority and pledged to keep the public informed as more details emerge regarding the condition of the bridge and the next course of action.
