    Mudavadi meets Rubio, talk on regional peace

    Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi held a high-level bilateral meeting with U.S. Secretary of State, Senator Marco Rubio to discuss matters of mutual strategic interest between the two countries.

    The discussions centered on peace and security, deepening trade and investment ties, and strengthening diplomatic cooperation.

    Both parties reaffirmed the long-standing and mutually respectful relationship between Kenya and the United States, built over decades of shared values and collaboration.

    There is a pivotal role of a regional anchor state and strategic partner in advancing peace, stability, and prosperity across Africa.

    The United States reiterated its support for the Kenya-led Multinational Security

    Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti, acknowledging Kenya’s principled leadership in fostering international peace and stability.

    The meeting also reflected on recent U.S. actions addressing criminal elements destabilizing Haiti.

    Kenya expressed its hope that ongoing global security dialogues will further support comprehensive efforts to curb violent extremist threats globally.

    Mudavadi briefed the U.S. side on the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC)-led peace initiatives including the appointment of five Heads of State to champion the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

    The United States committed to supporting these efforts in coordination with the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to foster a durable resolution to regional conflicts.

    The leaders acknowledged the need to have collaboration on security programmes in the region, including information sharing, border control, and combating extremist groups.

    On economic relations, both sides agreed on the importance of expediting negotiations on trade.

    Both leaders reaffirmed the readiness to partner under a renewed framework that promotes shared prosperity and sustainable investment.

    Rubio expressed his intent to visit Kenya in the near future to further cement the bilateral relationship and deepen strategic ties.
