Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen now demands the sacking of the Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti.

Speaking during a Saturday function in his area, the Senate Majority Leader alleged that the DCI director has been biased in his fight against corruption.

Murkomen added that Mr Kinoti has an uncalled for habit of leaking crucial information to the media before summoning his suspects.

He expressed: “We were told that Rotich was going to be asked 300 questions before he was summoned. I thought it was propaganda until I realized that he was actually asked 300 questions.

“We cannot fight corruption like that. We have to fight corruption objectively. I want to tell the DCI that we are not asking for a favor, neither are we asking him to be lenient. We are telling him to do things according to the law,”Murkomen added.

The clearly irritated Murkomen called on Kinoti to cease being a ploy in the bringing down of certain politicians.

In his defense, he claimed that he was highlighting the DCI’s misdoing because Kenya needs an institution that is independent and able to fight corruption.

Murkomen has joined a number of legislators who have accused the DCI and DPP of targeting politicians from a specific ethnic group in their fight against graft.

Last week, Treasury CS Henry Rotich was summoned for three days by the detectives following the Ksh21 billion scandal.

CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and Eugene Wamalwa were also summoned on Thursday in relation to the same scam.

The money was previously intended to be used in the construction of two dams in Elgeyo Marakwet.
