Legendary music executive Clive Davis has been hospitalized in New York City after suffering an upper respiratory infection, according to a spokesperson.

The spokesperson told media outlets that the 94-year-old music mogul was admitted to hospital on Friday “out of an abundance of caution” and is expected to be discharged within 24 hours.

“Clive was suffering from an upper respiratory infection and, out of an abundance of caution, he was admitted to the hospital,” the spokesperson said, adding that he is responding well to treatment.

Davis’ hospitalization comes just days after he was spotted attending the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner and Auction in New York City, where he appeared in public in good spirits.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the music industry, Davis helped shape the careers of some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Barry Manilow and Jennifer Hudson.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, Davis played a central role in discovering and mentoring artists across multiple genres, earning a reputation as one of the music business’s most successful executives.

Davis has also faced health challenges in recent years. In February 2021, he was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, a condition that causes temporary facial paralysis. At the time, he postponed the second part of his long-running annual pre-Grammy gala, an event traditionally held on the eve of the Grammy Awards since 1975.

His representative said then that he was being treated with antibiotics and steroids and was expected to make a full recovery.

“He is in good spirits and looks forward to doing the second half of his pre-Grammy gala,” the spokesperson said at the time.

Davis entered the music industry in the early 1960s and rose to become president of Columbia Records in 1967 at just 35 years old, helping redefine the modern music business through artist development and talent discovery.

Throughout his career, Davis repeatedly emphasized his deep passion for music.

“I’m immersed in it,” he once said. “I think music is the universal language.”

The Grammy-winning executive has received five Grammy Awards and remains one of the most respected figures in the global entertainment industry.
