Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado has been denied bail.

Justice Jessie Lessit has ordered that the county chief remains in remand until October 8, 2018.

“At this juncture I am disallowing the application and he will appear with the others on October 8th,” Justice Lessit said.

He and his co-accused Caspal Obiero will be remanded at the Industrial Area prison for a further twelve nights.

While delivering the ruling, High Court Judge Lessit said that the court could not determine his bail application before all the witness statements are in court.

Senior investigation officer from the homicide unit, Clement Mwangi in an affidavit noted that should Obado be released on bail, then there is a chance that he could interfere and intimidate key witnesses.

“The release of the accused person on bail pending hearing and determination of the trial is not absolute and is at the discretion of the court,” Mwangi said.

He said that the investigations are still on going and will be questioning close family members and county employees.

The prosecution had opposed his bail application saying that the accused might not appear in court, witness tampering and influencing the case.
