The National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, is set to conduct approval hearings today, Monday, April 14, 2025, for two Cabinet Secretary nominees recently appointed by President William Ruto.

First to appear before the committee will be Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, who has been nominated for the position of Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes.

His vetting is scheduled to take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Ruku’s nomination comes after the dismissal of Justin Muturi, who previously held the post. Muturi was removed from office following a reported fallout with President Ruto.

Next to face the committee will be Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, nominated for Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, The Arts and Heritage.

Her vetting will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

These proceedings follow the official communication from the President, which was submitted to the National Assembly on April 1, 2025.

The names and curriculum vitae of the nominees were then referred to the Committee on Appointments for review and reporting to the House.

The vetting process is conducted in line with the Constitution, the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, and the National Assembly Standing Orders.

These legal frameworks guide the committee in assessing the qualifications, integrity, and suitability of individuals nominated to hold public office.
