In what seems to be a never ending twist in the the turn of events, the police have decided to treat Asa Nyakundi’s wife Ms Lydia Kunga Apunga, and his son, Mr Noah Onsomu, as persons of interest.

The police said that they came to this conclusion as they said there was an attempted ‘cover up’ by the two family members close to the city lawyer.

“It is true that the two will be interrogated as persons of interest in our inquiry into the cover-up,” DCI Mr George Kinoti said

Ms Apunga had through her lawyer Danstan Omari had sought to block the the DCI and DPP from withdrawing the manslaughter charge after the two stated that unscrupulous had connived to exclude some reports from the file and even charged Nyakundi with a lesser charge.

she also said that her son’s shooting was an accident, and protested the revelation of her name and that of her son, who had been listed as witnesses in the case, terming it a contravention of Section 8 of the Victims Protection Act.

Kinoti said that he was investigating a murder regardless of whether it was a family member or not. He asserted that the family members could not dictate what Nyakundi was to be charged with.

n an application filed on Friday, Lydia Kunga blamed the court for not involving her when the state withdrew the manslaughter charges against her husband.

According to Ms Nyakundi, “the High Court should issue conservatory orders staying the decision in Criminal Case No.704 of 2019 of allowing the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) unilateral decision of withdrawing the manslaughter charges preferred against Advocate Assa Nyakundi.”

Her application was filed at Milimani Law courts a day after the DPP was allowed by the Kiambu law court to drop manslaughter charges against Nyakundi.
