Police had arrested two suspects following a shooting incident in Mwihoko, Githurai Sub-County, in which a man allegedly fired a pistol in public before assaulting one of two complainants.
The incident occurred at about 2pm on July 11 outside Southern Gardens Apartments in the Mwihoko-Kilimambogo area.
The complainants told police they were standing beside the road near the apartment’s parking area when a silver Toyota Wish carrying three men stopped near them.
One of the occupants, who was seated in the front passenger seat, allegedly got out of the vehicle, drew a pistol from his waist, cocked it and fired a shot in their direction while appearing to be intoxicated. He then allegedly brandished the firearm before physically assaulting one of them. The third occupant remained inside the vehicle as the suspects drove off towards the Kilimambogo 46 area.
Police officers responded to the scene and, with the help of CCTV footage from the apartment, identified the vehicle and two of its occupants. Although no spent cartridge was recovered, detectives later arrested the driver and his friend.
During a search, officers recovered a firearm licence from one of the victims that is valid until August 15, 2026. However, no firearm was found at the time of the arrests.
The complainants positively identified the two suspects, and the Toyota Wish was detained at Mwihoko Police Station for further investigations.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the whereabouts of the firearm and the involvement of the third occupant.
This prompted further probe that led to the recovery of the weapons.
Police are investigating to know more on the weapons.
