Police are investigating an incident where a police officer attached to a team that guards the official president’s residence collapsed and died at the Mombasa State House.

The police constable was found unconscious where he had been assigned at the premise and rushed to hospital.

Doctors at the Jocham Referral Hospital declared him dead on arrival on February 25, 2026 morning.

It is not clear what caused the death. His colleagues revealed he had complained of abdominal pain before he collapsed. He sustained an injury in the chin on falling, officials who attended the scene said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said. His family was informed of the tragic incident and was expected to be in Mombasa on Thursday for the planned autopsy.

The incident caused panic among other colleagues who were on duty amid investigations.

The investigators want to understand what the deceased ate and where.

Senior officials from Mombasa visited the scene as part of the probe into the death.

All State Houses and Lodges are guarded by members of the General Service Unit’s G Company.

The team also guards the president and his deputy’s private residences and premises.

Together with his family, the President has about 200 security guards from the GSU.

As part of security measures, they don’t allow armed police officers, especially those with rifles, at the events, apart from their members.

Whenever the President moves, the local police commander has to ensure the movement is guarded. If he stops to address a gathering, tens of local officers are deployed.

The President enjoys some of the best police officers’ services as they are drawn from various units and trained on a common agenda.

Other than police officers, officials from the National Intelligence Service also provide crucial services to the President.
