    Early Life

Rahul Gandhi was born on June 19, 1970, in New Delhi, India, into one of the most influential political families in the country. He is the son of Rajiv Gandhi, India’s sixth Prime Minister, and Sonia Gandhi, the long-serving president of the Indian National Congress. His grandmother was Indira Gandhi, India’s first female Prime Minister, and his great-grandfather was Jawaharlal Nehru, the nation’s founding Prime Minister.

Rahul grew up alongside his sister, Priyanka Gandhi, who is also a politician. His family background exposed him to politics from an early age, but also subjected him to tragedy, as both his grandmother and father were assassinated.

    Education

Rahul Gandhi’s education was shaped by the security challenges his family faced. He studied at St. Columba’s School in Delhi and later joined The Doon School in Dehradun. Following Indira Gandhi’s assassination in 1984, Rahul and Priyanka were homeschooled due to security concerns.

For higher studies, he joined St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, before transferring to Harvard University. After his father’s assassination in 1991, Rahul moved to Rollins College in Florida under the pseudonym Raul Vinci for safety reasons, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then pursued a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies at Trinity College, Cambridge, completing it in 1995.

    Professional

Before entering politics, Rahul Gandhi worked in London with the Monitor Group, a management consulting firm. Later, he founded his own technology consultancy in Mumbai.

Rahul formally entered politics in 2004, contesting elections from Amethi, his father’s former constituency. His win marked the beginning of a long parliamentary career. He has served on several parliamentary committees and held key leadership positions, including:

    • General Secretary of the Congress Party (2007)
    • President of the Indian National Congress (2017–2019)
    • Chair of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India

Despite Congress’ declining performance in national elections against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rahul has remained a prominent opposition leader.

    Disqualification and Return
