Raila Odinga has supported the calls for a referendum to change the constitution noting that the time has come.

While speaking in Rongo, Migori County the ODM leader said that the change was inevitable.

“No one can stop an idea whose time has come,” the former prime minister said.

He has set camp in Migori for two days to campaign for Ochillo Ayacko who is vying for the senatorial seat in a by election following the death of Senator Ben Oluoch.

The call for a referendum has been differently received by members of parliament with those supporting saying that it would reduce the baggage on the mwananchi if the number of representatives are reduced.

MPs allied to Deputy president William Ruto have opposed the calls for a referendum saying that the exercise will only benefit one person.

The leader of majority Aden Duale even said Jubilee Mps have had no debate on the reducing the electoral positions unless they receive direction from president Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Jubilee Party will not be involved in the debate about reducing the number of electoral seats until it gets direction from President Uhuru Kenyatta. Our prime focus is on the Big Four Agenda,” Mr Duale said.

Migori governor Okoth Obado who is currently facing murder charges for his girlfriend and unborn child had rallied behind Eddy Oketch of the Federal party saying that Ayacko had been selected from a boardroom decision.
