Rwanda’s mobile money transfer services are set for further expansion following Rwandatel’s intention to offer the service to their clientele.

It follows in the footsteps of rival MTN Rwanda which was the first telecoms provider to offer the services.

MTN announced that it had assisted its clients transfer Rwf 60 million ever since it launched the services in January this year.

According to Rwandatel Chief Commercial Officer, Francis Egbuson, the service provider will spend over Rwf 900 million in developing its mobile money transfer services which is scheduled to be launched in the last quarter of 2010.

`Our uniqueness is not compounded in one or two features but resides in our value proposition such as our seamless processes and procedures’, Egbuson told The Sunday Times.

In terms of numbers, Rwandatel aims at achieving 100,000 Mobile money subscribers by the end of 2011. It also aims at recruiting between 250 and 300 agents within the same period.

`We are excited about the endless possibilities our mobile money transfer facility will bring to our subscribers in Rwanda, especially those who do not have access to banks.

“We foresee our subscribers doing more than receiving or sending money. We foresee our subscribers paying bills, salaries, taxes, fees, and doing all sorts of shopping from the convenience and safety of their mobile phones’, he added.

Rwandatel will launch the service in partnership with Access Bank Rwanda.
