    Early Life

Rexton Gordon, better known as Shabba Ranks, was born on January 17, 1966, in Sturgetown, St. Ann, Jamaica. He grew up surrounded by the rich culture of reggae and dancehall, which shaped his passion for music from a young age. By the 1980s, he began performing on local sound systems and quickly earned a reputation for his gritty, hardcore dancehall style.

    Rise to Fame

Shabba Ranks gained international recognition with hit songs such as Mr. Loverman, Wicked Inna Bed, and Ting-A-Ling. His breakout success came in the late 1980s when dancehall music started spreading globally. By 1991, his growing influence led him to sign a lucrative record deal with Epic Records, where he released five albums that elevated him to worldwide stardom.

His music, characterized by his gravelly voice and bold lyrical delivery, helped him become one of the most influential figures in the dancehall genre. However, his outspoken views, particularly on homosexuality, often sparked controversy and at times overshadowed his musical achievements.
