A sugar cane vendor / farmer from Homa Bay is the latest Sh5 million winner in the ongoing Masonko na Safaricom consumer promotion.

Mary Atieno Angwen became the fourth Sh5 million winner in the promotion that seeks to reward Safaricom loyal clients and also counter the competition from the other operators.

Ms Angwen had made only 53 entries into the promotion was presented with the Sh5 million cheque alongside seven other winners of the daily Sh1 million.

The seven, including Agatha Wairimu, a dental assistant from Nairobi, Abraham Mwangi, a Thika-based marketer with Solai Paints, Mwinyi Toya, a fruit juice vendor from Mombasa and Amos Makori from Olenguruone in Molo were awarded at a ceremony held at Safaricom House and presided over by incoming CEO Bob Collymore.

Other winners were Cyrus Nderi, a farmer from Kirinyaga, Salim Said, a Mombasa based mason and John Ndegwa Njoroge, an employee with the Athi River Water Services Board in Nairobi.

Safaricom has so far received a total of 539,170,399 entries into the promotion since launch a couple of weeks ago. These entries have come from 12,091,824 PrePay subscribers and 79,020 PostPay subscribers.

Other past Sh5 million winners include an Italian Housewife living in Nairobi, Mama Alice Aloo from Nyanza and Collins Kiprop Cheruiyot, the Chief Meteorologist at the Kenya Meteorological Department in Nairobi.

Currently the biggest consumer promotion ever seen in Kenya, Masonko na Safaricom aims at rewarding Safaricom’s over 16 million Safaricom subscribers as the company celebrates its 10th anniversary this month.

The promotion runs till December 2 with both PrePay and PostPay customers eligible to win the daily amounts and weekly prizes of Sh5 million.

Masonko na Safaricom will climax in a Grand Draw whose winner will walk away with a staggering Sh25 million.

Safaricom PrePay customers qualify for one entry for every top-up of Sh10, meaning the more one tops up their air-time, the more their chances of winning. For Safaricom PostPay subscribers, the currency for one entry is air-time usage worth Sh10.
