Indonesian government authorities on Tuesday arrested a Tanzanian man, Abdul Rahman Asman in Bali, after more than a kilogram of drugs was found inside his stomach.

According to the immigration officials, Abdul Rahman Asman was arrested while on the holiday island at their international airport in January.

They revealed that they found some 99 plastic bags filled with white powder that the suspect had presumably swallowed, mentioned to be more than a kilogram of methamphetamine.

The officials made this realization after the 42-year old man was scanned with an x-ray and CT-scan.

Asman is also accused of being in possession of other dozens of bags with drugs that were displayed at the customs office table on Tuesday.

The suspect, who is in custody of the Indonesian authorities adorned in an orange jumpsuit and restrained with hand and leg irons – as he was being paraded to the media, is among the foreigners who are routinely detained by the officials for drug offences.

It is however not clear on whether the authorities will seek the death penalty against Asman.

According to reports, the country has dozens of smugglers on death row, including a cocaine-mule British grandmother, an American caught with crystal methamphetamine and several West African inmates.

Indonesia is known worldwide for its strict drug laws including execution by firing squad for traffickers.
