Persons living with albinism have often been stigmatized based on the color of their skin, their disability has often been seen as a privilege by ignorant people who failed to understand the challenges that they face.

However, Jairus Ongetta popularly known as Jay has chosen to mentor and fight this stigma through poetry. He uses his platform as the reigning Mr Albinism Kenya to create awareness in community of people living with albinism.

With that platform he had created a red carpet experience dubbed the ‘Taste of my skin’ where he will share the experiences ,challenges and triumphs of people living with disability through performance art.

The intention of the event would be trigger emotions and challenge the social status and mentality that difference in skin color does not affect capabilities of human beings.

‘Taste of my skin’ will be an event marking the beginning of the fight against the stigma and creation of awareness and restoring the human dignity that is currently a concern.

The event will entail the long 400 km bike ride from Nairobi to Kakamega through Nakuru and Eldoret with the riders advocating for road safety as well as restoring the dignity of people living with albinism.

The red carpet event is slated for august 10 at the KICC from 5 PM. Tickets are going for KSh2000.

In the recent past people living with albinism had been targeted as their body parts were seen as useful commodities used to perform witchcraft.
