Police have in custody a third suspect in the murder of Mary Wambui Kamangara.
On Monday, officers investigating the gruesome murder captured a taxi driver Michael Githae Mathenge who they believe helped ferry the deceased’s body from Four Ways Junction to Juja.
Michael runs Mipals Travel Adventures and Hire located along Kimathi Lane, Nairobi. According to the police, he has known Judy Wangui Mungai, the other suspect in the case, since 2016.
She has hired cars from him including a KCE series that she used on the material day. She drove the car to Wambui’s home and later claimed that it failed to start.
Michael appeared before Kiambu Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo but did not take a plea. He did however seek to be released as there were no compelling reasons for the police to continue holding him.
Ms Atambo rejected the application on the basis that the matter was “weighty.”
Investigating Officer Cornelius Arwasa told the court that they are in possession of evidence “showing the respondent [Mr Githae] was in Four Ways Junction Estate during the suspected time of the [murder] and that he was in constant communication with another suspect Judy Wangui Mungai on the night of January 26 up to about 3am on January 27.”

“We [also] have evidence showing the respondent [Mr Githae] went to Juja area where the body of the deceased was discovered later that day [January 27],” the court heard.
Micheal also told the police that Wangui had on the material day called him letting him know that she was going to offer him some business later on in the day.
Wambui’s body was discovered in Juja, Thika Road and her Mercedes Benz, registration number KCC 068U found in Kwa Maiko market, Githunguri.
Michael will remain in custody for seven more days pending investigations.
