And a 42-year-old casual worker employed by the Trans Nzoia County Government drowned in a well at Railway Ground in Kitale, police have reported.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Bidii Sub-location in Kwanza Sub-County.

Police said a man who knew the deceased reported that he had gone to the well, removed his clothes and shoes, jumped into the water and drowned.

    Police officers visited the scene.

The well, which measures approximately three metres in diameter, was found full of water. The deceased’s clothes and shoes were found near the well.

With the assistance of members of the public, police officers retrieved the body, which was identified as that of Wilson Kiprop Rutongot.

Rutongot was a casual worker in the Trans Nzoia County Government’s Department of Environment.

Police said the body had no visible external injuries, although water was observed oozing from the mouth.

The scene was documented by Scenes of Crime officers before the body was taken to Crystal Cottage Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, police in Dagoretti, Nairobi, arrested a man suspected of beating his 36-year-old nephew to death following a family dispute.

The deceased, Peter Mukuria, was allegedly attacked at his home in Pathanius Village on Thursday evening, September 3, 2026.

Mukuria was found dead lying on his bed at about 8.30pm after he failed to show up for supper.

His brother reportedly discovered the body and alerted a pastor, who subsequently reported the incident to police.

Police said the deceased had previously differed with his uncle, who allegedly accused him of insulting him by referring to him as “uncircumcised.”

The suspect is alleged to have gone to Mukuria’s house armed with a wooden stick and struck him on the forehead and back.

Scenes of Crime personnel documented the scene as investigations commenced.

The suspect was arrested and placed in police custody pending further investigations and possible arraignment.

The body was removed to St Teresa Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.
