Two arrested with Sh4 million heroin in Mombasa

The long arm of the law has caught up with two drug peddlers after hawk-eyed detectives swooped in and netted heroin worth over Sh4 million in Utange, Mombasa County.

In a coordinated raid, officers drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) and Kiembeni Police Station arrested Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim Abubakar, bringing their alleged trade to a halt.

Acting on solid intelligence, the multi-agency team stormed a residential house hidden behind a towering perimeter wall in Barawa area, Kisauni Sub-County.

A thorough search of the home uncovered several neatly packed sachets of heroin stashed inside two bedrooms, police said. But that was just the tip of the iceberg as a further search of the compound led to the discovery of another package of heroin cunningly buried in a hole, tucked away in a corner of the compound, clearly meant to beat the system.

By the end of the operation, officers had recovered 1,346 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of Sh4,092,000, alongside a digital weighing machine and a drying machine, evidence of a well-oiled illicit business.

The suspects are currently cooling their heels in police custody as detectives wrap up investigations ahead of their arraignment.

And in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking, law enforcement officers from Meru apprehended two traffickers and seized a substantial haul of Cannabis Sativa.

Acting on a tip-off, the officers conducted a raid on a rental house located in the Municipality area, in the Mwiteria sub-location.

Upon entering the premises, they uncovered 22 kilograms of bhang and 440 rolls, all valued at approximately Sh630,000 in the streets.

The operation also yielded rolling papers, a digital weighing scale, 38 black courier bags, and a National Youth Service smoke jacket, among other incriminating items.

The suspects were arrested on the spot. They were escorted, together with the recovered exhibits, to Meru Police Station, where they are undergoing processing pending arraignment.
