Two people died and several others left with serious injuries after an accident occurred in Itumbe Market, Kisii County on Tuesday night.

Reports indicate a police car in pursuit of a matatu rammed into a crowd of people at the popular market.

According to eye witness account, the two vehicles were speeding when the land cruiser lost control and hit the busy traders at around 9pm.

“It’s very unfortunate that a police officer who is informed about traffic rules can drive in such a careless way. We want justice for these families,” Sagini Okerosi, an eye witness, told the media.

Moments later, the officers managed to contain the situation and moved the body of the deceased from the scene.
